Tree Valley

Architectural design

Tree Valley set out to create a co-living oasis in Riviere Noire. At the heart of the scheme is a “living road” that allows inhabitants to flow naturally through the site. The site comprises 26 residential units and 1 community building, which will be used as a local market space, situating the project deep within the local community’s social and economic infrastructure.

The buildings juxtapose this “openness” that is expressed in the shared space to allow inhabitants privacy. The monolithic forms with minimal openings and windows focus the views on individual gardens and the river to the rear of the site. The composition of the streetscape focuses on Fairerol’s architectural language of playing with masses. The forms undulate from the ground, creating places of respite and intrigue.

Mixed within a dense forest, the site seeks to reuse and retain a large portion of the greenery, blending large, stark and strong architectural forms with the natural forms’ nature. This is illustrated further through the single material choice of the internal road, creating a critical junction between the man-made and nature.
